Question about different internet speeds?

Ok, so I was answering a survey, and part of it asked about internet speeds, the options being; moden - 33.6k, modem - 56k, ISDN - 112k, DSL - 256k, DSL - 768k, T1 - 1M, DSL/Cable - 2M, and LAN - 10M. What do these how mean, and how can I find which one of these I am. For example, what is the difference between DSL, ISDN, and LAN?? Thanks!

http://speedtest.net/ will test your speed.

ISDN and DSL are two different methods of sending digital data over phone lines. ISDN is often used by radio stations because their speed is very consistent. LAN is anything using Ethernet cables for connections. It can also have a wireless component. The network for multiple computers, NAS, network printers, etc that you set up in your home is LAN. Mine goes 1 Gbps and I can send files between my laptop and my desktop at 70 MBps. Somewhere down the line of all LAN connections is some means of talking to the internet. Your speed over the lan and your speed to the internet are two different things.

DSL refers to a cable internet connection that is commonly found in households, ISDN refers to Integrated Services Digital Network is bit more advanced and will provide you with greater speeds compared to others. If you intend to use an internet in an office usually people subscribe to LAN - Local area network which gives more speeds for business usage like mentioned a 10mbps speed.
and modem obviously the slow connection you get for a small bill amount. Nowadays people use a DSL connection with 256kbps or 512kbps speed.
Hope it helped you :)

The numbers are kilo and mega bits per second. LAN is local area network. ISDN is slower than DSL, but more expensive. If you pay your internet bill to a phone company, you probably have DSL. If it's a cable company, you have cable internet. Some DSL providers have speeds up to 10M, and some cable companies go up to 50M.
