My bf said he wants to marry me in like a year or two, do I ask him for a ring now?

Since my bf and I first met he always has told me he wants to marry me.
The other day we were talking and he seriously told me in a year or two (when he get more financially stable) he said we will go to city hall and get married. (he may have said we will exchange rings at city hall) anyways, he's making it clear he really wants to marry me.

Should I ask him for a ring? A promise ring I could call it. I just want to be 100% sure. Or would I be "rushing" him if I asked him for a ring now?
