Why do you think this "friend" did this to me all the time?

i was friends with this guy. he told me he wanted to be friends, and said maybe we'll be good friends and all this nonsense, so i asked him if he wants to study on a saturday, and he freaking invited the entire class. then another time i asked if he wants to study with me in the library, and he said he doesn't like studying in the library - it's too quiet. he needs some noise in the background
Another time I asked if he wants to check out a coffee shop, and AGAIN he invited the whole class

i've stopped inviting him. i figured he doesnt want to be a study buddy
but guess what, i've seen him in the LIBRARY studying and i see him every now and again with one or two people studying in the lounges and coffee shops.

I don't get it. It makes me want to be like "oooh i see you're studying with one person. i didnt think you did that" or "oh, i thought you said you don't study in the library. what are you doing here?"
I'm bitter...
