Undecided Question

Is 1.5 or less mbps fast enough for online gaming?

Hi. I'm switching internet plans soon and I'd like to know if it'd be fast enough for no lag. I'm currently running on 6 or 5 mbps. I understand it's slower, but will it affect my gaming in any way? I usually play COD on ps3, if that has anything to do with it. I just don't want to be lagging all over the place and getting kicked out of games because my connection is too slow. Thanks!

I don't know why everybody thinks massive speed is the number one criteria for gaming. Whether or not 1.5 Mbps is fast enough depends on the amount of traffic that game generates, the amount of traffic in your area, especially if you are on Cable, and the ping time to the server. If you have a ping time over 100 ms, for example, 30 Mbps won't make much difference. Or to put it another way, a person in NYC playing games on a server in Australia will probably die a lot. Going from 1.5 Mbps to 5 Mbps won't change your ping times much.

Lag is caused by a number of things from ping times, traffic load on connections between you and server, even your TV. An LCD TV that has 120Hz processing turned on, can result in lag due to the time it takes to do that 120 Hz stuff. Most LCD TV's have the ability to turn it off.

So the ultimate answer is, it depends.
