Undecided Question
What are conflict diamonds and what do they illustrate about resource use?
"Conflict Diamonds," or "Blood Diamonds" come from conflict zones, areas where locals are being murdered and enslaved in order to mine them, smuggle them, and sell them. These diamonds do nothing for the local economy but put money in the pockets of corrupt officials and dangerous terrorist groups, who use the money for guns and drugs.
This illustrates that where there are resources- a third world country will suffer. Because the superpowers demand diamonds to sell to rich housewives, it puts this gem in demand, and corruption ensues. Africa would be a lot better off if it had nothing other countries wanted, then they would be left alone.
