Undecided Question
If I talk to my school guidance counsellor about my eating disorder will she.....?
Will she tell my Mom?
My best friend really wants me to talk to the counsellor...but I don't want my Mom to know just yet...and I want to be the one to tell her. So will she tell? thanks

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, your guidance counselor is under legal obligation to inform the proper authorities (depending on the situation, could be police, social services, parents, etc.). Although an eating disorder is probably not considered "immediate danger", your counselor is likely to encourage you to talk to your mom or to talk to your mom on her own. You should still go; let the counselor know that you haven't talked to your mom yet and that you want to be the one to tell her. Your counselor should help you make a plan to talk to her and get help.

It depends! I know some reaaal not so nice councillor that did tell your parents -.- even though you trusted only her to know... Its stupid, I know.

School personnel are mandatory reporters. This means anything that puts you in danger must be sent along. I've done the mandatory reporter training several times, and I'm not sure that it would extend to something like an eating disorder, but I would assume your counselor would send this along to best get you help. If you are not in any immediate danger I would certainly still go, as you can work with the counselor to come up with a plan to begin to deal with your eating disorder and and plan to talk to your mother about it. You are wise to seek help - untreated this will seriously affect your health in the future. I know that you're not thinking about 20 years from now but it is coming, and you will want a strong and healthy body when your future gets here. Good luck.
