No, they stopped calling it GRID because they realized and learned through scientific research, that it was not scientifically accurate, and actually pretty ridiculous, to believe that a disease/virus could specifically target gay people...

HIV and AIDS originated in Africa, and has been linked to a certain primate that could carry the disease without actually dying from it. The fact that it was first noticed, and for a while stayed relatively contained, in the gay community is sheer coincidence. Back in the day, when there were still tons of European and British colonies in Africa, prostitutes were a very common pastime for the businessmen.... especially male prostitutes... poor, uneducated, from rural/jungle areas... who were infected...
