Why do people call Kobe a ballhog when he gets assists?

I Always here people calling him a ballhog but the funny thing is when u ask about their favorite player they hardly ever get assists..right now kobe is averaging 5.4 APG and there's been quite a few games this year were he gets a good amount and most if the time after every game I look at each team stats and Kobe has more assist then the laker point guard and the opposing's team point guard..plus his role is to score first like a SG should, his not the pass first like a PG
