Ipad 2 for education?

okay i was concidering on buying an ipad 2 for higher educational purposes and i already have a notebook.
i'm planning to buy the ipad 2 along with a bluetooth keyboard and a smart cover which i think its quite neccessary.is it worth it if i'm going to study in meds school?
do i have to pay for all the books,music,podcast and educational apps or just certain things?
