Advice to a 14 year old whose friends want to cheat off him?

A friend of mine has a 14 year old whose friends always want to copy his homework and don't do any work and then rely on him to do it for them.

The child wants to remain popular and not come across as overly righteous, but doesn't want to continue having to do work for others and be part of cheating. The teachers know that cheating is rampant and don't care so aren't part of the solution.

What should the kid do to keep his friends, but also stop from having to do the work for them?

Tell your friends no. Or for a couple days just don't do your work so they stop relying on you. Tell them to do it once. Or that your done doing their work.

i can't say it's a big deal except one day he'll realize he only cheated himself out of a good education

Sometimes loosing a friend is inevitable. If they're really his friends, they wouldn't get overly upset over this and stop talking to him if he refuses to give them his homework. I sugest that he stops letting them copy off of him. Yes, it could cost him a couple friends, but there are so many people in the world and if he gets caught letting them cheat, he's going to be in trouble too. It's not fair to do all the work and them have it copied by someone else. Good luck and sorry I couldn't really give a straight answer!

If These Are His "Friends", They Wouldn't Put That Pressure On Him. But You Didn't Ask Me That... So I Would Say To Make A Joke Out Of It. Next Time They Ask, Say Something Like "Wow Guys, You Don't Do Your Own Homework?" Or Something Like That And Laugh It Off. The Situation Will Be A Lot Lighter.

Just say no

the kid should stop doing his homework for a couple of days so that his friends feel they cant rely on him and realise they have to do it themselves if they want the points. He could also do the assignment at the last minute, not giving his friends enough time to copy. He only needs to do this for about a week/ until hes percieved as unreliable.
