How Can I Make Friends With the New Kid?

So, there is a new girl at my school and today was her first day. I really want to be friends with her. I talked to her a little. We have 2 classes together, and homeroom. However, she was kind of hanging with the 'popular' people, who tend to welcome the new kids at first and then reject them. How can I be friends with this new girl?
