What do you think about food preservatives?

Please do help for my research project.. I am currently researching about food preservatives especially that used chemicals nowadays.. I had come out with an idea of using some natural substances to preserve food so please kindly drop any opinion as soon as possible to help me proceed with this research..Thanks:D
