Would a Chihuahua Mix harm a Hamster?

I just got a hamster and I already have a Chihuahua Mix( I don't know what she's mixed with)
She is a very well behaved dog, was never a troublemaker. My dog kept sniffing the cage and I took out the hamster. They sniffed each other and my dog didn't seem to do much. Then, I noticed she was sniffing the cage and licking her whiskers...that's when I got scared. Did she wanna eat it? But she is super nice! A while later, I took it out again and my dog bit it, but it didn't get harmed. Thank God! I was so scared because I know hamsters are so delicate! Was she just trying to play with it? Did she think she was a fuzzy toy ball? She is known to be the playful type when it comes to balls, but what do you think? Should I be more cautious when letting my hamster out? Should they be allowed in the same room?
