I'm worried about my cat?

1.)Okay my cat had an abcess so they're sadating him and while their at it neutering him to. They say there are risks. What are they and what are the chances?

2.) Also my cats an outdoor cat now that hes getting neutered is it safe for him to go out side. Can he still defend himself like he did before ???
